  Who is the service for?

BATIAS Independent Advocacy Service supports adults (18+) with a learning disability to make informed choices, to speak out and get their wishes heard.

Who are BATIAS?

BATIAS is a voluntary organisation in Essex, which started in 1994 to provide advocacy services to people living in Basildon and Thurrock. Since then, our service has expanded, to support people who live in Brentwood, Southend, Castle Point and Rochford.

What is a learning disability?

A learning disability means that the person's capacity to learn is affected. This may sometimes be accompanied by other physical, sensory or behavioural disabilities. Some people are able to live quite independent lives, while others may require a great deal of support, up to 24 hours per day.

BATIAS offers three different types of advocacy:

Formal Advocacy

Self Advocacy

Citizen Advocacy

Click on the links above to find out more detail on the advocacy provided by BATIAS or go to the Contact Us page to request more details of a service.
